Technical, Financial and Redevelopment Assistance


  • Technical Assistance: Staff can help you find appropriate sites for your business expansion or relocation needs, apply for tax abatements (see policy documents below, call for details), and help you navigate the site plan review process.

  • Financial Assistance: Our Small Business Revolving Loan Fund provides up to $40,000 in project gap financing, and we'll work with you to identify other financial resources such as the city's two economic development funds, US Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 loans, tax-exempt financing, and small business loans through local commercial banks.   • Redevelopment Assistance: Staff offers its expertise and resources to redevelop abandoned and environmentally distressed sites; this is accomplished through our Brownfield Redevelopment Initiative and Brownfield Plan, as well as resources brought to bear through cooperative ventures with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and US Environmental Protection Agency. Under the approved work plan for the City of Kalamazoo’s Site Assessment Grant for Hazardous Substances, limited funding has been set aside to assist developers of privately-owned brownfield sites complete their due diligence environmental assessments, prior to acquisition.
