
The Public Works Division has recently located to 415 Stockbridge between S. Burdick & Portage Streets. The Public Works Division is responsible for street maintenance and repair, including snow removal. They also oversee cemeteries, The Kalamazoo Mall, Forestry, and Solid Waste.
Street Services
The Street division is responsible for a variety of street repair and maintenance activities including: potholes, sink holes, manhole cover problems, street signs damaged or missing; i.e.: no parking, street names, traffic control signs, bus stop signs, illegal curb lawn signs (ordinance says there will be no signs placed in the right of way or attached to telephone or power poles,0); storm drain grates, obstructions or debris in streets, snow and ice control. The Street division also cares for Sidewalk maintenance.
The City is only responsible for repairing sidewalks which have been damaged by City tree roots, (heaved sidewalks), or by utility cuts. Sidewalks which are old, crumbling, cracked, or damaged by private trees are the responsibility of the home owner. The City has a 50/50 replacement program for residents, (we will reimburse the property owner 50% of the cost of sidewalk replacement if approved by Engineering, contact at 337-8601 for more information.)
Cemeteries
The City owns two (2) cemeteries, Mt. Home Cemetery on West Main and Riverside Cemetery located at the corner of Gull Rd. and Riverview Drive. The city can provide current and historical burial information for these cemeteries. For more information please call the cemetery office located at 415 Stockbridge Ave. at 337-8227.
Forestry
The Public Works Forestry department is responsible for most problems associated with city trees (a tree located in the City's Right of Way, City Park or City owned property). This area is normally the grassy area between a sidewalk and the street or on the streets that have a boulevard in the middle of the street. Examples of work include: broken or hanging limbs, limbs that have fallen from City trees, City trees that need trimming for clearance over the streets or sidewalks, City trees that are dead or dying, planting new tree in the right of way. Solid Waste

The following services are provide by the Solid Waste department:
- Brush Pick Up - May through October on your regularly scheduled bulk trash pick up day.
- Leaf Collection - Each year the City collects leaves during the month of November.
- Compost and Wood Chips - Compost dirt/leaves and wood chips are available to the public free of charge. The piles are located at 3101 E. Michigan Ave. between Eastwood Tavern and Morris Rose.
The Department of Public Services also provides monthly collection of bulk trash items such as furniture, appliances, etc. but will not take hazardous waste such as paint, lawn chemicals, remodeling materials, i.e. lumber, drywall, roofing, etc.
