City of Kalamazoo's 125th Anniversary
On April 14, 1884, the founders of this City convened the first meeting of the City of Kalamazoo at 8:30pm.

On Tuesday, April 14, 2009, we commemorated this monumental landmark in our history by planting a tree in the South Courtyard of City Hall. Our year-long celebration will culminate with the dedication of the South Courtyard and setting of a marker to commemorate 125 Years of City Service.

During this year-long celebration, we will honor the legacy and accomplishments of a pioneering community of workers, leaders and residents at various events throughout the City.

Mixer on the Mall
Every Wednesday until the end of August

Celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the City with an after-work party!!

Mixer on the Mall features fantastic, unique and up-and-coming musicians along with great beverages; and the opportunity to network and meet new people. Check out www.central-city.net/  for a complete schedule of bands including Afro-Latin jazz, alternative, rhythm and blues, blues, rockabilly and great Motown covers.

July 16 & 17

Children participating in the Parks & Recreation’s Mini-Camp Program will enjoy a trip down memory lane as they celebrate the City’s 125th Anniversary. Participants will play games and have birthday cake prepared by students in the Future Chefs program.

July 23

Maranda’s Park Party will be the scene for the City’s 125th Anniversary.

Kalamazoo 1884 Movie Premiere
August 31

Come see the history of Kalamazoo as told through pictures. The movie premiere will begin at 6:00pm in the City Hall Commission Chambers (241 W. South Street).

Student Art Contest Starts
September 14

Students (5th -12th) can enter the contest and create art that depicts your favorite aspects of Kalamazoo. Creations by winners will be displayed in City Hall and throughout City facilities. Creations due by October 19.
