BYRNE JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG)

Recovery $553,309

Funding for the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant will be used by the four Kalamazoo Country law enforcement agencies and the Drug Treatment Courts and the Sobriety Court for the following objectives:

1.    Purchase equipment to support officer safety in the   
       field;
2.    Improve technologies in the area of training, mobile     
       computing, and digital recording and storage to    
       increase officer effectiveness and safety;
3.    Increase training opportunities for Sobriety Court and
       Drug Court staff;
4.    Provide incentives to Sobriety Court and Drug Court
       participants to encourage compliant behavior; and
5.    Increase the capacity to provide for indigent drug
       testing and substance abuse treatment/therapy in the Drug Courts.

Out of the $553,309 allocation the City of Kalamazoo will utilize $364,174; the County of Kalamazoo will utilize $101,029; Portage Police Department will utilize $59,241; and Kalamazoo Township Police Department will utilize $28,865 to start and complete the proposed activities expeditiously in a manner that maximizes economic benefits.  Each agency will insure that the proper procurement policies and procedures are followed and that all documentation is kept in an organized fashion for timely reporting.
