Mobility Management is a strategic approach to service coordination and customer service which enhances the ease of use and accessibility of the transportation network {United We Ride (UWR) and the Coordinating Council on Access and Mobility (CCAM)}. A key component, and the first initiative in this program, is Travel Training. Travel Training Instruction is designed to teach individuals how to travel safely and independently using the fixed-route bus system. Training comes at no cost to individuals and is tailored to meet the needs of trainees. Trainees learn about trip planning, bus routes, schedules, transferring, bus passes, and safety skills. The goal of training is to help community members gain mobile freedom. When community members enjoy mobile independence, they have an opportunity for self-sufficiency, and access to the community; including education, employment, healthcare, and leisure activities. The fixed-route system is a viable, affordable option to help community members obtain mobile freedom. Local businesses can also benefit from a potential growth in the pool of possible employees and patrons. If you or somebody you know would benefit from training, please contact Metro Transit to schedule a session. Call or email Serena Steele at 337-8856 or steeles@kalamazoocity.org. The mission of Kalamazoo Metro Transit is to provide the community with public transportation services that are dependable, convenient, safe, cost effective, and accessible for all. |
