8/6/08 - Groundwater Protection Message Hits the Road

The City of Kalamazoo’s Wellhead Protection Team has taken their groundwater protection message “on the road.” Advertising signs carrying the message “Protect Groundwater…It’s What You Drink” are currently displayed on the rear of 20 City of Kalamazoo Metro Transit buses through June 2009. It is hoped the signs, which will be seen by citizens throughout the entire greater Kalamazoo metropolitan area, will educate people as to the source of their drinking water, and get them to visit the website www.protectyourwater.net.

Also, make them aware of groundwater’s vulnerability to contamination from human activities and learn of ways that they can help minimize that risk.

This educational project is part of the City’s overall public education and outreach efforts and helps maintain its Groundwater Guardian designation status from The Groundwater Foundation. This project is being funded by a grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

The City of Kalamazoo is committed to advancing the public's health, safety and economic welfare by providing leadership, services, information, and support for the citizens, businesses, and visitors of Kalamazoo.
