Project Review Meetings

If you're planning a development project in Kalamazoo, it has to meet certain requirements to ensure it is safe and meets community standards. The City offers a free preliminary project review meeting to help you understand what approvals and reviews your project might need. This meeting allows you to get guidance from experienced city staff, so you know what to expect and can plan your project better.

What to Expect

During the meeting we'll discuss the specific requirements for your project based on its size and location (downtown, historic district, near protected areas), plus other relevant factors you'll need to know throughout planning. You'll also learn about the review and approval processes you need to go through. You can ask questions about zoning rules, building & fire codes, water and sanitary/sewer requirements, permits, environmental impact, and historical preservation guidelines.

How to Prepare

Make sure you have a clear idea of your project and its details. Most importantly, have a location and use. Bring any preliminary plans or sketches you have, along with information about the project's size, location, and potential impacts. Have a list of specific questions or issues you want to address. The more you can share about your project, the better our team can guide you.

By starting with a Project Review Meeting, you can align your development project with community values and regulations from the start, minimizing delays and positively contributing to the city's growth and identity.
