Make your voice heard! All eligible Kalamazoo voters are encouraged to exercise their right to vote on November 7, 2023, and in all elections. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. All Michigan voters can vote early or by mail using an absentee ballot.

How do I register to vote?

You can register to vote by online, by mail, email, or in person at the City Clerk's Office, County Clerk's Office, or a branch of the Michigan Secretary of State. 

If you are registering on or after Tuesday, October 24, 2023, you must register to vote in person at the City Clerk's Office located in City Hall at 241 W South Street. Please be prepared to show proof of where you live. You can register until 8 p.m. on Election Day.

When is the last day to register to vote by mail?

The last day you can register to vote by mail is Monday, October 23, 2023. Your application must be postmarked by October 23.

When is the last day to register in person?

You can register to vote in person until 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Anyone who wishes to register on or after October 24, 2023, including on Election Day, must register in person at the Kalamazoo City Clerk's Office in City Hall and provide proof of residency

Documents that will be accepted for Residency Verification include:

  • Michigan Driver’s License or Personal ID Card
  • Current utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Paycheck
  • Government check
  • Other government document

Items must include the applicant’s name and current address.  Electronic copies of these documents will be accepted. 

New voters can pick up an absentee ballot in person when they register to vote at the City Clerk’s Office until 8pm on Election Day.

How do I get a ballot?

To receive an absentee ballot though the mail, an Absentee Ballot Request Form must be received in the Clerk’s Office by Friday, November 3, 2023 at 5:00 pm. Request forms can be returned by mail, email, or fax to:

All registered voters are eligible to vote by mail. Absentee Ballot Request Forms will be mailed to voters on the permanent request form list in early September.  If you would like to receive an absentee ballot or you did not receive/misplaced your Absentee Ballot Request Form, you can find it here(PDF, 119KB).

Voters may also request a ballot in person at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office located at City Hall.  

Ballots MUST be received by the City Clerk's Office, Branch Office, or placed in one of the City drop boxes no later than 8pm on Election Day.

How do I return my ballot?

Ballots must be received by the Clerk’s Office by 8 p.m. election day.

By Mail

One First Class postage stamp is provided on the return envelope of all absentee ballots. If you choose to return your ballot by mail, please return your ballot as soon as possible. We recommend mailing your ballot at least one week before election day.

How do I vote by mail for every election?

To receive an absentee ballot application for every election, ask the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office about joining the Permanent Absentee Voter Application List.  Please call (269) 337-8793 or email elections@kalamazoocity.org to make the request.

Can I register to vote at my polling place?

No. If you are not already registered to vote by Election Day, you must register to vote at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office. However, you may vote an absentee ballot at in the City Clerk’s Office after you register to vote, or you can take your registration receipt and vote in person at your polling place.
