View Odor Data (H2S)

A leading cause of odors in Kalamazoo may be Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a gas that has a "rotten egg" smell. H2S can be emitted as part of wastewater treatment or from paper mills. More than a dozen H2S sensors have been installed in the most affected areas of the city to monitor levels of H2S. These sensors provide data that helps objectively measure the level of odor causing H2S and evaluate the effectiveness of odor mitigation projects.

The sensors provide real-time levels of H2S at each sensor location in parts per billion (ppb). The data shown is the 15 minute rolling average of sensor readings at 1 minute intervals. Users can view odor data as far back as September of 2019.
