  • How do I check my voter registration?

    You can check your voter registration at mi.gov/vote.

  • How do I register to vote?

    Unregistered voters seeking to participate in the August 4th election are encouraged to submit their voter registration form by mail, email, or register to vote online.

    You can register to vote at the Kalamazoo City Clerk's Office*, Kalamazoo County Clerk's Office*, or at any Secretary of State branch office*, or by mail until Monday, July 20, 2020 to be eligible for the August 4th election. 

    *Please check business hours or make a necessary appointment before leaving home. 

    If you are registering on or after July 21, 2020, you must register to vote at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office, located at 241 West South Street, in order to be eligible for the August 4th election.  Please check business hours of Kalamazoo City Hall before leaving home

    The voter registration application must be postmarked by Monday, July 20, 2020.

  • When is the last day to register to vote in person?

    8 pm on Election Day 

    Anyone who wishes to register on or after July 21, 2020, including on Election Day, must register in person at the Kalamazoo City Clerk's Office and provide proof of residency. 

    Documents that will be accepted for Residency Verification include:

    • Michigan Driver’s License or Personal ID Card
    • Current utility bill
    • Bank statement
    • Paycheck
    • Government check
    • Other government document

    Items must include the applicant’s name and current address.  Electronic copies of these documents will be accepted. 

    New voters can complete an absentee ballot in person when they register to vote at the City Clerk’s Office until 8pm on Election Day.

  • How do I get a ballot for the August 4 Election?

    To receive an absentee ballot though the mail, an Absentee Ballot Request Form must be received in the Clerk’s Office by Friday, July 31, 2020 at 5:00 pm. Request forms can be returned by mail, email, or fax to:

    All registered voters are eligible to vote by mail and were mailed an Absentee Ballot Request Form for the August 4 and November 3 election. If you did not receive or misplaced your Absentee Ballot Request Form, you can find it here

    Voters may also request a ballot in person at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office during business hours, on Saturday, August 1 from 8:00am to 4:00pm, or on Monday, August 3 until 4:00pm All voters will be encouraged to wear a face covering, sanitize, and stand at least 6 feet apart,

    Ballots for the August 4 election MUST be received by the City Clerk's Office no later than 8pm on Election Day.

  • How do I return my Ballot?

    Ballots must be received by the Clerk’s Office by 8:00 p.m. election day.

    1. Mail using one first class postage stamp. If you choose to return your ballot by mail, please return your ballot as soon as possible. We recommend mailing your ballot at least one week before election day.

    2. Return your ballot to our accessible drop box located at the corner of St. John’s Place and Lovell Street (behind City Hall on St. John’s Place). The drop box is accessible from the sidewalk or from your vehicle.

    3. Or return your ballot in person to the City Clerk’s Office during open business hours. Please check the hours for City Hall before leaving home.
  • How can I vote by mail in every election?

    To receive an absentee ballot application for every election, ask the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office about joining the Permanent Absentee Voter Application List.  Please call (269) 337-8793 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.   • Will my polling place be open for the Election?

    Yes.  Polling places for the August 4th election will be open.  Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

    All voters will be encouraged to wear a face covering, sanitize, and stand at least 6 feet apart. 

  • Can I register to vote at my polling place?

    No, if you are not already registered to vote by Election Day, you must register to vote at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office.   However, you may vote an absentee ballot at in the City Clerk’s Office after you register to vote, or you can take your registration receipt and vote in person at your polling place.
