Kik Pool to open for 2021 Season on June 9

Pool will offer open swim and lap swim with safety precautions in place

Kik Pool (1018 Walter Street) is scheduled to open for the 2021 season from Wednesday, June 9 to Sunday, August 15. The pool will be open for Lap Swim seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and Open Swim, Monday through Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kik Pool remained closed for the 2020 season. Kzoo Parks used this opportunity to make several improvements to the pool, including installing a new pool liner and continuing the colorful mural paint from the outside of the building into the locker rooms. The new pool liner will reduce required maintenance while providing a softer surface for guests while enjoying the pool.

“We were all disappointed to not be able to open the Kik Pool for our community last year, but we took that opportunity to make some needed improvements and prepare for a great season in 2021,” explained Ashton Anthony, Recreation Manager for Kzoo Parks. “Even if we still need to take a few extra steps to protect each other.”

Safety precautions will be in place to protect guests, including decreased capacity limits and increased cleaning of high touch points. Lounge chairs will be free to use but must be checked out so they can be cleaned between uses. Masks will be required for guests who are not vaccinated while using the locker rooms but will not be required when outside at the pool. Fully vaccinated guests will not be required to wear masks. Guests should always socially distance from non-household members. Birthday parties and event rentals will not be offered at the pool for the 2021 season. Kzoo Parks will continue to monitor guidance from the CDC and local health officials and adjust protocols accordingly.

Pool passes will be available for purchase starting June 9 at the Kik Pool or Kzoo Parks office. Day passes are $7 for adults ages 18 and above, $4 for youth ages 3 to 17, and kids 2 and under have free entry. Season passes are also available for individuals or families. An Individual Season Pass is $75 for Kalamazoo city residents or $115 for non-residents. A Family Season Pass is $90 for Kalamazoo city residents or $130 for non-residents. A Family Season Pass includes up to six family members per address. Additional family members may be added for $10 each.

The Kzoo Parks office (251 Mills Street) will be open to the public starting June 7 for the hours of Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Friday by appointment.
