Event will include ribbon cutting, tree walk, and a free showing of Tom & Jerry
Kzoo Parks will host a celebration event at Crane Park (2001 S Westnedge Ave) on Friday, September 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will include a ribbon cutting ceremony and remarks from City staff followed by a tree walk through the park led by the Crane Park Beautification Project. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
At 7 p.m. there will be a free showing of Tom & Jerry as part of the Summer Cinema event series. Summer Cinema events offer free outdoor movies on select Fridays throughout the summer and are presented by Lake Michigan Credit Union and sponsored by United Healthcare.
With support from the Foundation for Excellence, Crane Park received park improvements in 2019 including a new entrance area, a new walkway made from the brick road that previously divided the park, new courts for pickle ball and tennis, and a redesigned wedding room and ornamental garden. These improvements were informed by neighborhood residents during planning meetings in 2017.
“We’re excited to welcome our community to Crane Park to share these improvements and highlight the outstanding work of the volunteer gardeners that help keep the park beautiful,” said Patrick McVerry, Deputy Director for Kalamazoo’s Parks & Recreation Department. “Join us to celebrate the next chapter in this park’s history and enjoy a beautiful evening with friends and neighbors on Westnedge Hill.”
This event was originally planned for 2020 but was rescheduled due to COVID-19. Attendees should remain cautious and follow CDC and local health official guidelines to protect themselves and the community from COVID-19. This event is free, and all community members are welcome.
