Chief Karianne Thomas and Five New Public Safety Officers to be Sworn In At December 18 City Commission Meeting

The December 18 City Commission meeting will start with an Oath of Office Ceremony for five new Public Safety Officers and Public Safety Chief Karianne Thomas. Chief Thomas will introduce the five new Officers to take their oaths and then be ceremonially sworn-in herself.

Public Safety Officers Allison Baker, Eric Epps, Max Koch, Mike O’Strander and Davion Phillips were hired by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety in May 2017. They attended the fire and medical first responder academies and graduated from Kalamazoo Valley Community College earlier this month. They will begin serving our community in January 2018.

Chief Thomas was appointed to lead the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety following the departure of Chief Jeff Hadley in November. She is a 23-year veteran of the department, previously holding the rank of Deputy Chief.

The City Commission meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall, 241 West South Street. A reception will be held in the atrium of City Hall starting at 6:30 p.m. and continuing after the conclusion of the meeting. Refreshments will be provided.
