Starting Saturday, May 1, Kalamazoo city park gates will be open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk. Kzoo Parks staff will also continue to turn on park water fountains throughout May. All park water fountains and restrooms will be opened by May 29.
City parks are open year-round, but gates to parking and vehicle drives remain closed during the winter months because of reduced staffing. Restrooms and water fountains are winterized each year and reopen for the season once freezing temperatures pass and seasonal staff are available for cleaning and maintenance.
Gates to parking and drives will be opened at Milham, Spring Valley, Woods Lake, and Versluis/Dickinson Parks, as well as the Fairmount Dog Park. Water fountains at Crane Park and Fairmount Dog Park were turned on in late April and are currently available to use.
“Our team is looking forward to a really fun summer season in our city parks,” said Patrick McVerry, Parks & Recreation Deputy Director for the City of Kalamazoo. “We’re hard at work getting the rest of our facilities open so they are as comfortable and convenient as possible for everyone in our community to enjoy.”
