Cork & Portage Road Diet Open House

Next date: Monday, November 17, 2025 | 05:00 PM to 07:00 PM

A graphic comparing two streets, on with four lanes and one that has undergone a road diet with three lanes.

The City of Kalamazoo is planning improvements along Cork Street (Westnedge–Portage), Lovers Lane (Foley–Portage), and Portage Street (Cork–Stockbridge) to improve safety, extend pavement life, and create more comfortable, connected streets for all users.

Community members are invited to attend one of two open house–style public meetings to learn more about these upcoming projects. City staff will share design details and answer questions from residents and business owners. Attendees can stop by at any time during the meeting hours—there will be no formal presentation.

About the Projects

The improvements will include pavement maintenance, new lane configurations, bike lanes, and enhanced pedestrian crossings with refuge islands and flashing beacons. These updates are designed to make Cork Street, Lovers Lane, and Portage Street safer and easier to navigate for everyone—whether walking, biking, driving, or taking transit.

Construction for these projects is scheduled to begin in summer 2026.
