If you are considering buying a property to rent, you can request that it be inspected before completing the sale. An inspector will visit the property and let you know if it meets current rental standards or what would be needed before it could be certified.
A pre-sale inspection is specifically for the purpose of evaluating a property for compliance with rental housing standards. It is not the same as a private home inspection. There may be technical violations of Building, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing Codes that are not uncovered during this inspection.
Before we can inspect a property, we need authorization from the current owner or their agent. Let them know that you would like to schedule a pre-sale inspection and get written authorization allowing an inspector from the city to enter the property.
Request a Pre-Sale Inspection by completing the brief form below. You will need to provide the current owner's information and upload the written authorization for us to enter and inspect the property. The form will let you know the total fees that will be associated with your request. Once your request has been received, you can pay by check or credit card at the Community Planning & Economic Development Offices at 245 N Rose Street.
After payment has been made, a member of our team will contact you within 10 days to schedule an inspection. We will try to accommodate the needs of sales agreements that may be in place.
