Board of Review for Assessments

The Board of Review hears citizen appeals regarding property assessments. This board has the power to raise or lower the assessed value of properties in light of the evidence presented and in accordance with state law.

The Board of Review meets for three weeks in March to hear appeals beginning on the first Tuesday after the first Monday. It also meets in July and December to approve corrections to the Assessment Roll.

Board Member Residency Requirements: Members must be City Residents. 

July 2025 Board of Review

The Board of Review for the City of Kalamazoo will meet as provided by law as follows. A property’s valuation cannot be appealed at the July Board of Review. The July Board of Review does not have the authority to hear valuation disputes; only the March Board of Review has that authority.

When:
Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

Where:
Third Floor Conference Room, Kalamazoo City Hall, 241 W. South Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007

Why:
Pursuant to MCL 211.53b, the Board of Review will meet in its July session to consider any or all of the following:

  • Qualified errors (as defined in MCL 211.53b (10)) to the property assessment and tax rolls for 2024 – 2025, and clerical errors relating to a determination that a transfer of ownership had taken place for 2022 - 2025;
  • Qualified Agricultural Property Exemption claims for 2022 – 2025;
  • Homestead poverty exemption claims for 2025 & 2024 if not previously denied;
  • Any other business that may properly come before the board. The public is welcome to attend.
