Water System Advisory Council

The State of Michigan requires the operator of public water supply systems serving more than 50,000 people create a Water System Advisory Council. This council advises the City's Public Services Director as the operator of the system.

The Council consists of seven members nominated by the Public Services Director and appointed by the City Commission. They serve staggered terms of three years. To be eligible, candidates must have a demonstrated interest in or knowledge of lead in drinking water and its effects. At least one member must be a local resident who is a customer of the water system and does not represent the interests of any organization.

The Water System Advisory Council must meet at least once per year, and meetings can be called by the Public Services Director or the Council Chairperson.
