What We Heard in "Imagine It!"

Tree Map - What Does a Happy Healthy City Mean To You?

The first phase of Imagine Kalamazoo 2035 brought together over 2,400 community voices to shape a shared vision for Kalamazoo’s future. Through extensive outreach and engagement, key themes emerged, forming the “ingredients” for 2035 goals that we will refine in the next phase, Plan It!.

So what has the community been saying?

During the Imagine It! phase, our conversations spanned nearly every aspect of life in Kalamazoo. Several key themes emerged:

  • Transportation. Traffic. Non-motorized travel. Accessible for all. Options.
  • Housing. Affordable & accessible for all. Unhoused support. More housing units.
  • Infrastructure. Maintenance. Public Spaces. Transportation choices. Safe.
  • Environment. Protect. Restore. Individual Stewardship. More green spaces.
  • Economy. Support small business. Attract businesses. Thriving downtown. Nodes.
  • Community. Equity. Safety. Connectedness. Communication. Neighborhoods.
  • 3rd Spaces. Free. Accessible. Year-round. Public spaces. Spaces for all ages.
  • Activities/Events. Free. Accessible. Year-round. Welcoming. Community calendar.
