Nomination packets are now available for City of Kalamazoo residents interested in running for the Office of Mayor or City Commissioner in the upcoming municipal election, scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Packets can be picked up in person at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Each municipal election year, voters elect three City Commissioners to serve four-year terms and one Mayor to serve a two-year term. The City Commissioner who receives the most votes also serves as Vice Mayor for the first two years of their term.
To qualify as a candidate, individuals must be residents of and qualified electors in the City of Kalamazoo. Candidates are nominated by petition and must collect between 50 and 75 valid signatures from registered voters who also reside within the City of Kalamazoo. A completed nominating petition and an Affidavit of Identity are both required for a candidate’s name to appear on the ballot.
