Boil Water Advisory Lifted: Dwight, Charlotte, Bridge, Hotop, Sherwood

This advisory has been lifted.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the City of Kalamazoo repaired a water main leak on Dwight Avenue. The Boil Water Advisory that was issued is being extended in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department for all water intended for drinking or ingestion or any consumptive uses within the affected area, including:

  • Dwight Avenue- From Bridge Street (northern boundary) to Sherwood Avenue (southern boundary), both sides of the roadway. It does not include the northwest corner of Dwight Avenue and Sherwood Avenue.
  • Charlotte Avenue- From Bridge Street (southern boundary) to approximately 330ft north (northern boundary), both sides of the roadway.
  • Bridge Street- From Charlotte Avenue (western boundary) to Dwight Avenue (eastern boundary), both sides of the roadway.
  • Hotop Avenue- From Charlotte Avenue (western boundary) to Dwight Avenue (eastern boundary), both sides of the roadway. It does not include the northeast corner of Hotop Avenue and Charlotte Avenue.
  • Sherwood Avenue- Only includes the northeast corner of Sherwood Avenue and Dwight Avenue.

The City is required to have two consecutive sets of safe samples, 24-hours apart, before we can remove or “lift” the Boil Water Advisory. The first set of samples passed but the second was positive for Total Coliform but negative for E-Coli. Consequently, another round of sampling began on July 17. Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours of its collection and the final set within 48 hours. It is expected that the advisory will be lifted within 72 hours (July 20).

Municipal water customers in the affected area may use bottled water for consumptive purposes or boil their tap water for 2 minutes prior to use for drinking or other ingestion. No special precautionary measures are necessary for water used for personal hygiene.
