Join the City of Kalamazoo for two exciting open house events during Public Services Week! Go behind the scenes with the teams who keep our city running—learn how water gets cleaned and delivered, how streets are maintained, and how critical infrastructure supports everyday life in Kalamazoo.

These free, family-friendly events include guided tours, equipment displays, presentations, and hands-on opportunities to meet the people who manage our essential public services.

Tuesday, May 20 | Water & Wastewater Open House

Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant, 1415 N Harrison St  |  5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Learn what happens after water goes down the drain, and how it’s returned safely to the environment.

• Guided tours of the Water Reclamation Plant
• Overview of the wastewater treatment process
• Virtual tour of the central water pumping station
• Presentation on groundwater protection and clean water delivery

Thursday, May 22 | Public Works & Support Services Open House

Stockbridge Facility, 415 Stockbridge Ave  |  5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Discover how Kalamazoo’s streets, signals, sidewalks, trees, and trash systems are managed and maintained.

• Explore vehicles and large equipment
• Learn about services like street repair, tree care, and recycling
• Chat with staff at information booths and ask question

What to Expect

• Free and open to the public
• All ages welcome
• Signage and balloons to help guide you
• Trucks and large equipment on display
• Complimentary food and refreshments

Why It Matters

“Public Services Week is a chance to celebrate the people who make modern life possible,” said Public Services Director James Baker. “We’re proud of the work we do every day to support our community, and we’re excited to welcome residents behind the scenes to show how these vital systems work and why they matter.”

Public Services Week coincides with national recognitions including Public Works Week, Drinking Water Week, and Public Service Recognition Week—honoring the professionals who maintain the infrastructure that supports healthy, resilient communities.
