- Project value$10,105,856
- Project scheduleMarch - November 2024
A coordinated infrastructure project on Westnedge Avenue will start in March. Water main will be replaced and the road will be rebuilt, including the intersection of Whites and Westnedge.
Westnedge will be open southbound only during construction. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes. A signed detour will direct northbound drivers around construction via Burdick St. The intersection of Whites & Westnedge will be closed nightly (8 pm - 6 am) for about two weeks during the project for work in the intersection area.
Drivers should also be aware that work is happening nearby on Whites Rd as well. During that project, Whites will be open to eastbound traffic only.
This project was originally scheduled to be completed in 2023, but because of continued supply chain disruptions it has been delayed to 2024. Water main will be replaced and the street will be rebuilt with a number of above ground improvements for safety. Lanes will be narrowed from their varying widths (as wide as 15 feet in some areas) to a consistent width of 11-feet to slow speeds and improve safety. Sidewalks will be improved, and the semi-permanent bike lanes will be improved as they're made permanent (the final design is still to be determined). Traffic signal improvements are planned at the intersections of Whites Road, Inkster Avenue, Crosstown Parkway, and Howard Street.
This project is funded by the Water ($6,400,000) and Major Streets ($3,705,856) funds, including $2,141,148 provided through the 2019 jurisdictional transfers agreement with MDOT, and a federal grant of $1,361,299.
Precautionary Boil Water Advisories
