Spring Clean-Up

The City of Kalamazoo helps residents clean up after winter with a special curbside collection every April. The Spring Clean-Up accepts the same material as the brush program, but also accepts leaves that fell during winter or were not able to be collected in the fall.

You don't need to request this service, just place your material out according to the schedule and guidelines below. 

The Spring Clean-Up collection happens annually every April. Your collection day depends on what area of the city you live in. You can find your collection day for Spring Clean-Up by searching for your address here or on the map below.

Accepted: 

  • All material must be placed in open cardboard boxes, paper/biodegradable yard bags, or bound with binder twine (no wires)
  • Remaining leaves from the fall
  • Branches, twigs, and trimmings up to four feet in length and two inches in diameter
  • Weeds
  • Up to 7.5 cubic yards of material per collection

Not Accepted: 

  • Grass clippings, dirt, soil, sod, or mulch
  • Rocks, stones, bricks, concrete,
  • Regular household trash
  • Construction or demolition material
  • Loose piles of material
  • Railroad ties
  • Other landscaping materials
  • More than to 7.5 cubic yards of material per collection
  • Any material that is not bagged, boxed, or bundled

You can place prepared material at the curb starting at 7 a.m. the day before your scheduled pickup. Make sure your items are out no later than 6 a.m. on your collection day.

If your items are not collected for any reason, they must be removed from the curb within two days following the completed pickup in your area. If your collection was missed, make sure you report it promptly and no later than 48 hours after your scheduled pickup. 

These times are set by city ordinance so make sure you follow them- items placed at the curb too early or left out too late are considered a nuisance and may result in enforcement action without notice.
