We expect to remove and replace approximately 800 non-copper water services from the water system in 2024. This work will primarily be located in the Northside Neighborhood and the northern parts of the water system. These contracts also include the replacement of about 3.2 miles of water main (on Lulu St, Martin St, Campbell Ave, Pinehurst Blvd, Crown St, Wilmette St, Waverly St, Commonwealth Ave, N Dartmouth, Clarendon St, Berkley St, and Arlington St).
Once water service replacements in the "North Kalamazoo" area are completed, work will shift to the Edison Neighborhood late this year, with a large focused project planned to start there in 2025. This project is funded through a variety of grants, with funding available from both the State's Drinking Water Revolving Fund (DWRF) and the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
If your home will have its water service replaced, you will be contacted approximately 45 days ahead of when would would be scheduled. The contractor will coordinate with you when the work will take place.
In addition to these large water service replacement projects, City staff regularly test water for lead and perform individual replacements as needed based on testing results.
