Work is scheduled to begin Monday, July 14. Construction will start in the southern portion of the project area, between Kalamazoo Avenue and Willard Street. This section of Porter will be fully closed through approximately the week of August 18. After that, work will shift to the northern part of the project area.
Water main will be replaced on Porter Street between Kalamazoo Avenue and Ransom St in 2025. The current water main dead ends and will be replaced with a continuous section that is a standardized size. Once utility work is completed, the road will be resurfaced and pedestrian features will be rebuilt as needed. Due to the depth of the utilities and the nearby creek and railroad, this project will utilize directional boring.
The Porter Street project will be completed in two phases, beginning with the southern section between Kalamazoo Avenue and Willard Street. This segment will be closed to traffic starting the week of July 14, with local access to the Bell’s Brewery parking lot maintained from the north. Work in this area is expected to continue through the week of August 18.
The second phase will begin around August 18, closing Porter to traffic from the Amtrak railroad tracks to Harkins Court, and to thru traffic from Harkins Court to Ransom Street.
Final paving, manhole adjustments, and pavement markings from Kalamazoo Avenue to Ransom Street are scheduled for the week of September 15. During this time, Porter will be closed to thru traffic along the entire project corridor, with overall completion anticipated by September 18.
