The City of Kalamazoo is renovating the Arthur Washington Jr. Crosstown Center to create a modern workplace that improves customer service, strengthens collaboration between City departments, and makes better use of an existing public building.

The $11.2 million project will renovate approximately 43,250 square feet of the former County Courts building at 150 E. Crosstown Parkway while also modernizing portions of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety's Station 1. The renovated facility will bring multiple City services together under one roof, making them more accessible and better coordinated.

What to Expect During the Office Relocation 

The City's Community Planning & Economic Development (CPED) offices are relocating to the Arthur Washington Jr. Crosstown Center at 150 E. Crosstown Parkway. To complete the move, CPED offices will close at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 27. CPED Staff will resume most operations on Thursday, July 30 (including service by phone and email).

  • CPED phones will be available beginning Thursday, July 30.
  • Permit applications can be submitted online at any time throughout the move.
  • CPED-related payments will be accepted at City Hall through Friday, July 31.
  • Beginning Monday, August 3, payments will be accepted at the new CPED location.
  • The new CPED/KDPS public lobby will open Monday, August 3.

Public Safety Station 1 Improvements

  • Nap rooms and recharge areas for on-duty staff
  • An updated kitchen and support spaces
  • A dedicated public safety training area
