National Voter Education Week Activities Planned at KPL October 5-9

Community members can learn more about registering to vote, understanding their ballot, making a voting plan, and the voting process during National Voter Education Week, October 5–9.
The Kalamazoo Public Library’s Central Library, 315 S. Rose Street, will host a series of voter education opportunities throughout the week in collaboration with the Kalamazoo County Clerk’s Office, local clerks, the League of Women Voters of Kalamazoo Area, and the City of Kalamazoo Clerk’s Office.
Each day will focus on a different part of preparing to vote, with local election officials and community partners available to provide information and answer questions.
Monday, October 5: Voter Registration
10 a.m.–Noon and 4–7 p.m.
Representatives from the League of Women Voters of Kalamazoo Area will be available to help people register to vote or update their voter registration and answer questions about registration requirements and deadlines.
Tuesday, October 6: Get to Know Your Ballot
11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Staff from the Kalamazoo County Clerk’s Office will be available with sample ballots and information about how to find a sample ballot at Michigan.gov/Vote.
Election officials can read the information that appears on a ballot but cannot explain or interpret ballot language for voters. Information about nonpartisan voter guides will also be available.
Wednesday, October 7: Make a Plan to Vote
1–4 p.m.
Oshtemo Charter Township Clerk Dusty Farmer will share information about early voting, absentee voting, and how to find local polling locations, clerk offices, and ballot drop boxes.
Voters can also find voting information at Michigan.gov/Vote.
Thursday, October 8: Understand the Process
6–8 p.m.
The City of Kalamazoo's Clerk's Office will be available to answer questions about election administration, the voting process, and the Michigan Secure Election “Journey of the Vote” display.
Friday, October 9: Sharing with Family & Friends
1–3 p.m.
City of Kalamazoo Clerk’s Office staff will share ideas for helping family and friends engage with voting, including sharing how or when they plan to vote, coordinating rides, sending reminders, or sharing information through social media.
Explore the Journey of the Vote October 1–16
In addition to the daily National Voter Education Week activities, the Journey of the Vote poster display will be available on the main floor of Central Library from October 1–16.
A voter resource table will also be available throughout October 1–16 with materials including:
- Voter registration forms
- Absent voter ballot applications
- Early voting information
- City of Kalamazoo drop box locations
- Pocket Guides for Michigan Voters
- Local clerk contact information
- MiSecure Election Experience materials
- Election worker recruiting information
