2026 CWSRF Biosolids Management & Wastewater Infrastructure Projects The City of Kalamazoo will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2026 Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund (CWSRF) Project Plan to receive public comments. Arcadia Creek ("Phase 0" Westnedge Ave) The City of Kalamazoo is launching a transformative, multi-year project to rebuild and increase the capacity of Arcadia Creek. This effort will reduce the risk of flooding, protect local infrastructure, and support sustainable growth in the heart of the city. Announcement : One lane of Westnedge Avenue is planned to open between Water Street and Michigan Avenue starting August 16. Arcadia Creek Festival Place Renovation The City of Kalamazoo is working with design partners and community stakeholders to redesign Arcadia Creek Festival Place into a dynamic public space that serves residents, workers, and visitors throughout the year. Burdick Street Water Main Replacement Project A project to upgrade and modernize utilities under Burdick Street in 2026-2027.
Cork Street Road Diet This 2026 project will improve the surface of Cork St and reconfigure it from four lanes to three, creating a consistent 3-lane configuration along the Parkview-Whites,-Cork corridor. Downtown Kalamazoo Placemaking A placemaking initiative is currently underway to make new, vibrant spaces downtown and connect different hubs of activity. Announcement : The construction contract for the Farmers Alley and Rose Street plazas was approved on March 2, 2026, with construction expected to begin in spring 2026. The schedule for the other locations has not yet been determined and will depend on when funding is secured.
Eastside Water Treatment & Water Main (Station 5 & 14) The City of Kalamazoo is making a $60 million investment to build a new water treatment plant and replace critical water mains on the east side. This project will remove PFAS, iron, and manganese, consolidate water stations, and ensure safe, reliable drinking water for decades to come.
