Our Public Water Supply System is the second largest groundwater-based drinking water system in Michigan. It's also ranked one of the lowest for water rates out of the state's largest systems. Our system has a Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) approved Wellhead Protection Program, and it's been recognized with the Exemplary Source Water Protection Award by the American Water Works Association. Kalamazoo has also been designated a Groundwater Guardian Community every year since 1998. We provide 19 million gallons of water on an average day to nearly 200,000 customers in 11 jurisdictions. The system includes approximately 831 miles of water main and 6,225 hydrants.
